Qualifications
In 2004 a third (33 per cent) of Muslims of working age in Great Britain had no qualifications - the highest proportion for any religious group. They were also the least likely to have degrees or equivalent qualifications (12 per cent). Office for National Stats.
Homeless in London
Centrepoint, a London charity that helps young people with a wide range of problems, provides a bed for over 500 homeless young people every night (in the capital). Black and ethnic minority youth represent almost 60 % of the people helped!

In 2009, 22% of women were in jobs earning less than £7 an hour!

 |  Dear MC-UKOn behalf of PAFRAS and our destitute asylum seekers, thanks for your compassion and care for those left in abject poverty and in despair, who have no recourse to public benefits, and no permission to work. Without ready access to food, and no legal way to earn money many destitute asylum seekers are pushed to the brink of starvation and it has not been uncommon for us to see cases of people who are severely malnourished. The destitute asylum seekers were so greatful for the meals you so kindly donated to PAFRAS and they enjoyed them immensley, as one of our service users stated: " I eat rubbish, I have no control of what I manage to eat, I pick up food from the pavements and rubbish bins, anything is better than none, whatever it is it could be your last meal" service user PAFRAS Nov 2011. | Great to see this organisation established. It will help to remind/re-educate Muslims that the sunnah is to give charity closest to home, starting with the extended family, neighbourhood, wider community, etc. However, I would like to see Muslims go further and establish an organisation that distributes both zakat and sadaqa to all people in need regardless of religion. There is a difference of opinion (approx. 50/50) amongst Muslims scholars as to whether zakat can be given to non-muslims. My family has decided to give its zakat to anyone in need, regardless of faith. There is no difference of opinion about sadaqa - it can be given to all, regardless of faith. Imagine the impact of a charity, set up, run and funded by Muslims but donating to anyone in need. Surely, this is the sunnah and the future for UK Muslims!
